Ratas & Kohv bicycle cafe opens at Uus-Veerenni

The Uus-Veerenni residential neighbourhood is growing and developing constantly. Besides new homes completed at the end of April, distinctive services have also made everyday life more convenient. The latest addition, Uus-Veerenni Ratas & Kohv – is a prime example of how practical needs intersect with the opportunity for spending some pleasant leisure time in the same place.

More than a cafe or bike repair shop

Ratas & Kohv fuses several roles: bicycle shop, repair facility and cosy café under one roof.

For prospective bike shoppers there is a selection of new and used bikes, including more select models from Sweden’s Pilen.

While the bike rooms at Uus-Veerenni apartment buildings are big enough to perform minor maintenance, Ratas & Kohv will help with larger jobs – the workshop will take care of everything from minor repairs to restorations and overhauls.

With a barista on staff, the café serves high-quality coffee and other beverages and freshly baked savoury and sweet pastries. The menu also boasts lighter fare such as soups, sandwiches and salads to sweets such as cakes and pancakes.

A business with a long history

Ratas & Kohv isn’t a newcomer on the market. It is a family business with years of operation behind it. The first location was by the former hippodrome in Kristiine.

Owner Marten Selirand recalls: “We started years ago with a small bike repair place by the hippodrome. Later we moved to a larger space and added a cafe. That was how Ratas & Kohv was born – a place where bikes, good coffee and pleasant atmosphere meet.”

Today the family’s two daughters and son are also involved in the business. Visitors appreciate the café’s home-like ambience.

A place you won’t be in a rush to leave

Besides bike-related services and the food options, Ratas & Kohv is also meant as a place for just enjoying time. It can host meetings, events or just be a place for solo contemplation. From time to time, there’s live music or art shows.

Open as an everyday pitstop

While smaller jobs are performed on the spot, bikes are sent to a larger facility for more complicated repairs.

The café is open from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm on Saturday.
The bike repair shop is open from 10am to 6pm

A life that evolves with the area you call home

The activities that take place between and around the buildings play a very important role in the development of Uus-Veerenni – useful services, places offering recreational opportunities and pleasant neighbours.

With the completion of the building at Tiiu 14/1, the neighbourhood now has 63 new homes and that will mean a more lively courtyard with new opportunities for residents. Ratas & Kohv is another example of charging Uus-Veerenni with community-centred energy that will make a living environment into an actual home.

Here, active lifestyles, community and positive energy meet.
