A home inspired by nature with playful details in the Lahekalda Quarter
Nestled between Kadriorg and Pirita, the Lahekalda Quarter is already a thriving community of some 400 families. It is here that you can find Anete’s colourful home in which hand-crafted furniture combines with a palette inspired by nature.
Close to the sea, the forest, and the city centre
A unique and versatile locale, Lahekalda Quarter is situated amidst the urban hustle while offering a secluded haven surrounded by greenery and cradled by the sea. This blend of diversity and a location perfectly placed to connect with friends and family was what kindled Anete’s fascination for Lahekalda. It began with a winter stroll through the area and led to a quest to make it her home.
An urban dwelling with rural charms
Anete was looking for a city home with a rustic charm. She wanted a place that was right by the city centre yet still secluded, allowing her the luxury of sleeping with an open window, undisturbed by the noise and dust generated by passing vehicles.
Lahekalda Quarter is tucked away from major roads, with its access road crossing a small embankment that naturally shields the homes from the hustle and flow of traffic.
The abundant lush greenery around the area also serves as a natural sound buffer. During walks and bike rides around Lahekalda, Anete has encountered fox cubs and hares, a sure sign of the diverse wildlife in the area. In spring, she assembles exquisite bouquets from the wonderful variety of wildflowers that grow in and around the quarter.
Skilled with her hands
Perhaps a product of her background in construction, Anete is passionate about creating and repairing things with her own hands – a passion that led her to thoroughly enjoy the process of decorating her home. Using her own two hands, she made several pieces of furniture for her new residence, including a sofa table, a bed, two nightstands, and a flower ladder for the balcony. Among her ongoing projects is a plan to construct a bar cabinet using the legs of her great-grandmother’s Singer sewing machine. Anete is also grateful for the help of her parents; her father’s assistance was invaluable in building the bed frame, and her mother’s gifted hands fashioned the beautiful curtains in the windows.
An interior that echoes nature
When it came to furnishing her home, Anete had a clear vision of bold colours across large surfaces. Given the apartment’s modest size, she chose two key focal points for this purpose – the kitchen and the sofa. These spaces served as the canvas upon which she gradually curated the remaining elements.
Nature was Anete’s inspiration for her home’s interior. She decided that the kitchen would don a striking hue of forest green – a colour that Anete feels best represents her as a person.
The bedroom wallpaper draws inspiration from the wilderness, with earthy tones depicting leaves and birds. Here, amidst nature’s rhythms and in the embrace of hand-made furnishings, sleep comes effortlessly.
