If we have the chance to make something better, we give in to the temptation — and do it.

We believe long-term effort creates more value than one-time initiatives.

We focus on Merko’s long-term collaborations and professional partners.

We don’t aim for everything. Our support activities focus on five key areas.

The Merko Group’s companies and majority shareholders contribute approximately EUR 1 million each year to community support activities.

  • Every step builds health

Merko’s largest long-term support project is Estonian Health Trails, launched in 2005 together with Swedbank and Enefit. Across Estonia, there are 130 well-maintained trails that offer people the chance to take care of their health year-round, free of charge, while enjoying the outdoors. By promoting an active lifestyle, we help increase the number of healthy years lived by the people of Estonia.

  • The light whispers in Old Town

In 2019, Tallinn’s medieval Old Town walls and towers received a modern lighting solution that brings them to life after dark. The lighting system was designed and built by Merko, with funding provided by Kapitel. As you stroll through the Old Town, you can discover newly illuminated walking paths, listen to fascinating and mystical stories about the city’s history through the audio guide, and admire the craftsmanship of builders from centuries past.

Becoming a civil engineer starts early. We spark a curiosity in children that inspires young people to choose the path of engineering.

Curiosity about how things work and the drive to achieve the best possible result — this is a mindset born in childhood, developed through learning, and shared by great construction professionals across generations.

We start by sparking an interest in engineering among our employees’ children — by introducing them to their parents’ daily work and Merko’s activities. We encourage young people to explore construction and study STEM subjects, laying the foundation for future engineering studies at university.

To make engineering studies more hands-on, we organise site visits to Merko projects, give guest lectures and offer internships to help students confirm their career path. Merko scholarships for TalTech students, lecturers and researchers allow them to focus on their calling.

Why do we support?

„What makes being a builder meaningful is this: as you move around the city, you see the buildings you’ve created with your team — and feel proud of them. Being a builder is a truly honourable profession.“
