If we have the chance to make something better, we give in to the temptation — and do it.

We believe long-term effort creates more value than one-time initiatives.

We focus on Merko’s long-term collaborations and professional partners.

We don’t aim for everything. Our support activities focus on five key areas.

The Merko Group’s companies and majority shareholders contribute approximately EUR 1 million each year to community support activities.

  • Every step builds health

Merko’s largest long-term support project is Estonian Health Trails, launched in 2005 together with Swedbank and Enefit. Across Estonia, there are 130 well-maintained trails that offer people the chance to take care of their health year-round, free of charge, while enjoying the outdoors. By promoting an active lifestyle, we help increase the number of healthy years lived by the people of Estonia.

  • The light whispers in Old Town

In 2019, Tallinn’s medieval Old Town walls and towers received a modern lighting solution that brings them to life after dark. The lighting system was designed and built by Merko, with funding provided by Kapitel. As you stroll through the Old Town, you can discover newly illuminated walking paths, listen to fascinating and mystical stories about the city’s history through the audio guide, and admire the craftsmanship of builders from centuries past.

We enrich public space with art and inspire people to notice the living environment around them.

We believe that the quality of urban space affects people’s daily well-being just as much as the buildings and infrastructure themselves. That’s why we help shape a vibrant and diverse public realm — a place that’s not only for living or working, but also for walking, pausing and exploring.

We’ve lit up the historic city wall and towers in Tallinn’s Old Town and brought artworks into public spaces. We invite people to stop, even for a moment, and step out of the daily rush to notice the beauty and intrigue around them.

In the residential quarters developed by Merko, our responsibility doesn’t begin or end at the apartment building’s front door — it extends to the shared areas around the buildings. We design green spaces full of possibilities, encouraging people to relax, meet and enjoy time together. Public space gives places their identity and offers value to everyone moving through the city.

Why do we support?

“At home and in our home city, we share responsibility for the environment we’ve created — or that those before us have entrusted us to protect and improve. If we have the chance to make something better, we give in to the temptation — and do it.”
