We continue to be the most attractive employer for engineering students

Yesterday, employer branding agency Instar and the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry recognized Estonia’s most valued employers. Merko was named the most attractive employer for engineering students for the third year in a row and for the fourth time overall.

It was the 16th time Instar held the Estonia-wide employment expectation and employer reputation survey. This year, close to 6000 students at universities and vocational schools and people with job market experience in the fields of economics, IT, construction, humanities, engineering, logistics and other sectors took part in the survey held from March to May, describing their expectations for work and ranking companies they would want to work for.

Since 2017, we have finished first in the sector rankings on four occasions, winning in 2024, 2023 and 2021 in addition to this year’s title. We have finished in the top three in eight of the last nine years.

Educating the next generation of civil engineers is an extremely important mission for Merko. Close cooperation with universities is part of our everyday work. Merko and its employees share their knowledge and experience at lectures, job site visits, internships, student events and competitions, career fairs, work shadow days and by involving young people in Merko corporate events. We support students and young researchers by handing out scholarships.

We pass on the best available knowledge and experience of a professional, high-quality construction process, good teamwork and proper construction culture. This way students gain an appreciation early on for the meaning of working with a team on major, important projects. After they start internships, the theoretical understanding is complemented by hands-on experience.

Merko’s formula is a simple one: encourage youth, talk about the work Merko does, provide mentoring by more experienced specialists, trust and inspire the up-and-coming employees and let them shine. That is how young professionals put down roots in the specialty and develop confidence that leads to big future feats in the civil engineering field.

We’re very pleased that students have taken note of our consistent activity. Thanks to everyone in the Merko community who have contributed to this title.
