The cornerstone was placed for the new cultural and recreational centre

On Tuesday, 27 May, the representatives of Merko Ehitus, Skanska EMV and AS SOLARIS KESKUS placed a cornerstone for the cultural and recreational centre to be established at Rävala pst 12. Also, the name of the new centre was announced which will be SOLARIS KESKUS.

The contract for construction and design services with AS Merko Ehitus and Skanska EMV AS in amount of approximately 828 million kroons entered into force on 14 June 2007. The construction works will be performed up to the end of 2009.

Jüri Läll, the project director of Merko Ehitus, who has been also the project manager at the construction of Coca-Cola Plaza, stated when comparing the new building that SOLARIS KESKUS has been planned three times as big. “The fact that two floors will be built underground is no news nowadays, though the construction pit of 110,000 cubic meters in the conditions of the city centre is quite remarkable,” the project director commented. Besides, the great challenge for the constructor is also the establishing of the theatre hall which is considerably larger and higher than that of Estonia, Läll added.

According to Peeter Rebane, the representative of SOLARIS KESKUS AS, developer of the centre, the 1800-place multifunctional hall, the Baltic first 3D-digital cinema complex with seven Cinamon screens, centre of films of value with two screens, art gallery, jazz club, dance studio, sports club, cafes and shops will be established into the new cultural, conference and recreational centre. For instance, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, Old Baskin’s Theatre and Tallinn Dance Academy will start its activities in the centre. Also, the underground car parking lot for more than 200 cars is planned into the centre.
