Merko has the best organized construction site in Tallinn

The City of Tallinn recognized the construction of the office building at Pärnu Road 22 carried out by Merko Ehitus Eesti as an example of the best-organized construction site in 2018. Merko has been awarded the title of the construction company with the best-organized construction site on four occasions.

The goal of the public competition organized since 2005 and carried out by the Tallinn Municipal Services Department is to check the well-being of the construction sites in Tallinn, to draw the attention of the builders to the deficiencies of the maintenance of the sites and to identify the company who takes the best care of the maintenance of the construction sites.

In 2018, construction sites in Tallinn were evaluated on fifteen occasions, and the committee checked the organization of construction sites on sixty-six occasions. At the end of each inspection, the committee selected a construction company with the best construction site during the inspection visit.

The site at Pärnu Road 22, which won the first prize in the year, was inspected during four inspection visits and the summary prepared by the committee was as follows:

“The building under construction was located by Pärnu Road with intense traffic, the construction site was always surrounded by the fence, and no debris was dispersed from the site to the city environment. Large-scale heavy machinery transporting building materials was placed skillfully considering the tight conditions, traffic re-regulation schemes were in use, and the assistance of traffic management companies was always used for maneuvering. Crane lifting work was carried out in the immediate vicinity of the tram overhead wire, and more time-consuming lifting work was carried out outside working hours and on weekends. The exit from the site to the street was kept clean, and the street cleaning company service was regularly used to ensure maintenance. According to the Property Maintenance Rules, the information board of the construction site was very noticeable and contained the necessary information about the construction.”

The competition evaluation committee consisted of specialists from the Tallinn Municipal Service Department, the Tallinn Municipal Police Department and the Northern Prefecture of the Police and Border Guard Board, whose work consists mainly in registering the compliance of property maintenance requirements, preparation of precepts regarding shortcomings and the inspection of compliance therewith.
