Four new recipients of scholarships from Merko

At the Tallinn University of Technology Development Fund’s 2024 scholarship competition, Merko scholarships were awarded to Martin Talvik, Kirke Männik, Marten Erik Johandi and Ranar Pügi.

Merko has been handing out its eponymous scholarships since 2007. We recognize young people who have an open mind and ambition to achieve, and are very keen to see scholarship winners accept employment from us. The scholarship for young researchers and teacher contributes to replenishing the Tallinn Technical University academic and teaching staff with young minds.

This year, the young researcher and teacher scholarship went to Tallinn Technical University civil engineering and architecture doctoral student and teacher Martin Talvik. He has been a valued partner for Merko in solving construction physics issues, has presented at the Merko quality seminar and brought a scientific mindset out of the labs so that practitioners could apply it on the job site. Martin’s work ethic is characterized well by Merko’s operating principle  quality in everything. As an extraordinarily thorough and meticulous civil engineer, he sets a great example for young students just starting out as well as for seasoned civil engineers.

Kirke Männik is a third-year student in the building design and construction management speciality at Tallinn Technical University, who came aboard for an internship in summer on the Hyatt Hotel project and works there today as a technician. She is a dedicated individual who places high value on studying and continuously developing her skill sets in the field. Her interest in the field and passion for engineering grows with every day – and it can be clearly seen by her co-workers on the job. Kirke is capable of successfully dividing her time between work and study; she brings positive energy and enthusiasm to anything she does and everyone she interacts with.

Marten Erik Johandi is in his final year at Tallinn Tech studying building design and construction management. Like the others, he also started working for Merko as a summer intern and then continued for use by becoming a technician in the structural engineering department. Marten Erik is drawn by the multifaceted nature of the profession of civil engineer, a bent for finding solutions to thorny problems and creating a high-quality living environment through his work. He puts a premium on pursuing personal development and keeping an open mind, giving him motivation to never stop learning. Marten Erik’s interest in professional challenges, active participation in engineering competitions and training all attest to his commitment and resolve in laying the foundation for engineering excellence.

Ranar Pügi is a fourth-year student in the building design and construction management program at Tallinn Technical University. Having started on the Rae State High School project last year and now employed as a technician on the Tartu mnt office building site team, Ranar burns to learn and is devoted to his goal, a young person whose conscientiousness and openness to cooperation stand out in everything he undertakes. Thanks to his great time planning skill and initiative – integral to the profession of civil engineer – he is capable of balancing school with work, taking part in various sectoral events and being involved in sports. His good attitude, enterprising mindset and desire to keep on learning – all show that this is a real name to watch for the future in engineering.

We wish all the scholarship recipients all the best for the future, and eagerly await seeing what they will achieve!
