A living environment designed to be home

Lahekalda is more than just a place to live — it is a complete living environment that grows alongside the expectations of your family. It is becoming a quarter where life is comfortable, green and well-organised.

At the heart of the quarter, there is a 24/7 self-service store, allowing for quick and convenient everyday shopping. A modern kindergarten is also planned, along with a park featuring diverse and lush greenery, including recreational areas, playgrounds and pavilions.

A dedicated bus stop is planned for Lahekalda, scheduled to be completed in 2026. An Omniva parcel locker is also under development.

Lahekalda is growing step by step into an increasingly diverse and vibrant place. With each new home, new neighbours join the community, creating shared moments, stories and memories that grow together with the neighbourhood.

The Lahekalda quarter spans an area of seventeen hectares. Between the buildings, you will already find benches, playgrounds and an outdoor gym, as well as a greenhouse and raised planting beds.

In the future, a park area will be developed within the quarter, creating a relaxed outdoor space for residents to read, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy the fresh air.

Nature close to home

In the immediate vicinity of Lahekalda are pine forests, Tondiraba Park, and Kadriorg Park with its romantic walking paths, rose garden and Japanese garden. The Pirita promenade is also easily accessible, offering excellent opportunities for seaside walks and active leisure.

The richness of the surrounding nature creates a calm yet vibrant environment where city and nature meet.

Cliffside park and a direct route to Pirita

A pathway connects the Lahekalda quarter to Mäe Street, providing residents with a direct walking and cycling route towards Pirita road.

In the future, a 9-kilometre-long lush cliffside park, developed by the City of Tallinn, will run along the limestone cliff from Kadriorg to the Pirita river valley.

There is no need to go far to receive parcels either, as Lahekalda has its own parcel locker. And if a coffee craving strikes while you are out for a walk or heading to the playground, there is no need to think twice — a hot drinks vending machine is available in all weather conditions.

A safe and fun place for children

  • Between the buildings, there are pleasant play areas offering plenty of activities for both older and younger children — including swings, climbing structures, table tennis tables and more.

Pets and guests

The perfect place for pets

Lahekalda homes are ideal for pet owners. The surrounding nature offers plenty of opportunities for walking, exercising and caring for animals.

Take your four-legged friend for a walk or run by the seaside or along the Pirita health trails. In Tondiraba Park, there is a large dog area with an agility course for more active pets. After a walk, you can conveniently clean your pet’s paws in the storage area on the ground floor of the building.

Guests are always welcome at Lahekalda

When guests come to visit Lahekalda — whether by car, scooter or bike — parking is easy and convenient. Cars can be left in the Paekalda Street parking bays managed by Europark (with up to four hours of free parking). Of course, be prepared for your guests to be amazed by the views opening from your new home’s windows.

From limestone quarry and Sugar Hill to Lahekalda

Today’s Lahekalda quarter is located on the Maarjamäe plateau, an area once known as Suhkrumägi (“Sugar Hill”).

The sweet-sounding name comes from the fact that in the early 19th century, merchant Johan Gottlieb Clementz established a sugar factory with auxiliary buildings in this area, parts of which have survived and are now used by the Estonian History Museum.

A story that begins with limestone

However, Lahekalda’s history actually dates back to the Middle Ages, with limestone at its core — Estonia’s national stone, used for centuries in construction and beyond. The limestone used to build Tallinn’s Old Town originates largely from Lasnamäe, right here nearby.

The trendiest future residential area

The trendiest future residential area

In 2019, Merko began the development of a new residential quarter in Lahekalda. The first phase included three five-storey apartment buildings with a total of 144 homes. At the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, three more apartment buildings with similar architecture were completed.

The first homes in Lahekalda were designed by architect Ilmar Klammer, while the smart and comfortable layouts were created by Merko in collaboration with interior architect Ahti Peetersoo. The tasteful interior finishing packages were designed by interior architects Toomas Korb and Aet Grigorjev from the architecture and interior design studio PINK.

At the end of 2022, two taller eight-storey residential buildings comprising 98 homes were completed in Lahekalda. These modern buildings, distinguished by their angular balconies, introduced a new architectural style to the quarter.

The architectural concept for the buildings at Paekalda 19, 21 and 23 was created by the architecture firm PLUSS. The apartment layouts and interior finishing packages were developed in collaboration with the interior architects of LÄVI. This same architectural symphony continues with the buildings at Paekalda 15 and 17, scheduled for completion in 2026, and the house at Paekalda 13, which is scheduled for completion in 2027.

The next stage is planned to be the residential buildings at Paekalda 27, designed by R-KONSULT under the leadership of chief architect Irina Raud. The placement of the buildings carefully follows the natural topography of the site, using the landscape to create both private and semi-private outdoor spaces.

A somewhat different architectural approach can be seen in the future Horisont residential buildings, designed by Arhitekt11. Yet the views from the homes remain just as impressive — overlooking the sea, Tallinn Old Town, the Viimsi peninsula, the forests of Pirita and Muuga Bay.

One of the defining features of the Horisont buildings will be their spacious terraces on every floor, oriented towards the evening sun and offering breathtaking views of the sea and the Old Town. The buildings have also been positioned within the quarter so as not to obstruct the views enjoyed by residents of the existing homes.

Convenience close to home

In addition to its distinctive residential buildings, future Lahekalda will feature a local kindergarten, neighbourhood store, café and park area, creating a pleasant environment where residents of all ages and their guests can spend time and enjoy the community.
